Japan Society, Turtle Bay, NYC

Directly next to the Church of the Holy Family (see previous post) is the Japan Society at 333 East 47th Street. It was designed by Junzo Yoshimura with George Shimamoto of Gruzen Partnership, formerly Kelly and Gruzen–which I covered on this blog several times recently. The building was completed in 1971. It’s the first building in New York City by a leading Japanese architect and is currently being considered for local landmark status.
