This building at the corner of Jay and Tillary Streets is known as the Klitgord Building, after a former president of City Tech (as the school is informally known). It was built in 1962 and includes an auditorium, sporting and administrative facilities. City Tech announced last year that the structure would be demolished and replaced with a much larger and more contemporary structure. Interior demolition has already commenced and the building is closed to the public.
It seems odd to have such a low-rise building with an enormous footprint at this prominent location and the new building will be more contextual with the nearby structures. The building also has a rear wing with old signage devoted to a possibly defunct Department of Education television studio.
The decoration of the building is extremely streamlined and plain. The only overt decoration is the tile mosaic over the front entrance featuring educational themes and the school seal next to the entry doors.
