St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Arlington, VA

St. Charles Borromeo at the intersection of N. Fairfax Drive and N. Kirkwood Drive was built between 1955 and 1965 with sources varying. As the larger campus includes St. Charles School, and other related buildings on same property it’s possible the complex was built over time. Regardless the buildings, mainly the original sanctuary exterior, have some engaging modern details including small recessed windows with concrete surrounds, a stylized steeple with a metal cross and original metal lettering above a small side door. Today the congregation numbers more than 3,000 and a prominent contemporary addition has gone up at one corner to accommodate the growing numbers.

  1. Joanne Murray says:

My sister and I attended St Charles’s school, so I can tell you the church was built some time between 1957 and 1961. Fun to see these photos.
