Junior High School 265, Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NYC

Like many schools of this time, Junior High School 265, officially known as the Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts, follows a standard pattern of building height, massing and materials. Some of these schools are obviously more successful than others depending on the combination of materials and decorative finishes. One of 265’s most unique features is the Mondrian-esque enamel panels on the stair-towers.

This paneling is complemented by varying bands of colored brick. White is the predominant color (and could use a good cleaning), with vertical bands of light blue and horizontal areas of red.
