Barkin-Levin Factory, Long Island City, NYC

Located on an isolated corner of 13th Street and 33rd Avenue in Long Island City, behind a sports field, this building was originally the Barkin-Levin Factory and is now Ocasa Logistics Solutions. It is out of the way and surrounded by a tall fence but worth a visit. It is rare to see a suburban style modern office building of this scale in New York City. It was built in 1958 by Ulrich Franzen, who this website previously covered here. On the left side of the building is a glass corridor that connects the office complex to the new factory building next door.

One Response to Barkin-Levin Factory, Long Island City, NYC

  1. John Hill says:

That building is really close to the Socrates Sculpture Garden and the Isamu Noguchi Museum, so visits to those places should include seeing this building. I happened upon it after visiting Socrates, and I must say I was impressed with it. From what I recall, the openness of the interior is unfortunately compromised by what looks like new partitions. But overall it’s so well preserved, it’s like mid-century oasis. Glad to know more about; thanks for posting.
