Houston Chapel, Randolph College, Lynchburg, VA

Officially known as the Frances Hundley Houston Memorial Chapel, this building was built in 1969 at Randolph College, until very recently known as Randolph-Macon Women’s College. The architect was Vincent Kling, a prolific architect based in Philadelphia.

    The interior is extraordinary and dramatic. That large stained glass wall at the top of the spiral speckles the worship spaces with glowing colors. There are no other windows in that room. It’s lovely. Not mundane.
