Amalgamated Bank Complex

At the corner of Jewel Avenue and Parsons Boulevard in the Kew Gardens Hills section of Queens is a prominent complex of three buildings that houses the Amalgamated Bank of New York. The buildings were constructed from 1960-1964. The office building still holds the bank, as well as the Pomononk Branch of the Queens Public Library.

Behind the corner building is a smaller building on Jewel Avenue set back into a plaza. The bank was founded in 1923 as a wholly union-owned company and remains so to this day. Therefore it makes sense that this smaller building is headquarters of Local Union 3 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Very little of the building seems to have changed and I believe the signage and many of the decorative details such as the metal stair rails are all original.
