Why Mundane?

This website explores a specific type of structure that no one gives much thought to. While architecture of the mid-century and recent past have been seen as increasingly significant in recent years, there is a category of vernacular building that uses a modern architecture vocabulary and contributes to a sense of place, but will most likely never been seen as truly significant and is not a candidate for preservation at this time. Examples include regional bank branches, schools and community colleges, municipal offices, fire and police stations, and retail locations. This is an effort just to document a small fraction of these places and hopefully raise awareness about their importance.
