This BB&T bank branch, formerly Mount Vernon National Bank and Trust, at 6618 Richmond Highway in Alexandria, VA is an interesting diversion in an endless strip of sprawl. Unfortunately, the branch is currently proposed for demolition and a new branch will be constructed. Not sure why the existing building cannot be rehabbed.

This is a great little building. If the entry vestibule and the canopy at the ATM were removed and the overhang at the teller windows was redesigned to harmonize with the existing architecture, this building would be perfect. BB&T probably need a corporate rebranding also. Unfortunately it will probably be demolished and replaced with some EIFS monstrosity in a faux historical style.
